Wrong number — really, really wrong number

As an HR manager, no matter how detail-oriented you are, it’s often a good idea to have someone else proofread something you’ve written. Here’s why: People looking for employment thought they had dialed a number for the Maryland Job Service Hotline.

Instead, they got a phone number for women looking for sex.

The number for the job hotline was listed incorrectly on the state Web site, as well as in the Verizon Yellow Pages and other Web sites.

State officials say they’re aware of the problem (we’re guessing it didn’t take them long to find out), and they’re working to correct it.

As an HRB  public service, the correct number for Maryland Job Services is 410-767-2148.

A similar thing happened to me…we were doing a Wellness screening and the number in the packets that the employees were to call to schedule their appointment was one of those numbers. I check all numbers now ahead of time.
