Will lots of employees skip work Friday, or is this Web site just batty?

Only time will tell if a prediction by careerbuilder.com that many employees will call in sick or show up a little late for work on Friday because of late night screenings of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight.

Theaters have added more than 1,500 late-night shows at 12:01 a.m. Friday. Since some of those shows have already sold out, some theaters are also adding 6:00 a.m. showings.

Fandango.com, the film ticketing Web site, has reported a large jump in sales for the opening day showings. In a survey of 3,000 of the Web site’s readers:

  • 37% said they’d be seeing one of the “red eye” late night showings
  • 38% said they’d take time off from work on Friday to see the film, and
  • it’s a younger guy thing: 60% who said they’d see the film were male and 71% were under 35.

Let us know Monday if you had even a few more call-outs than usual on Friday.
