What would your company do if it found an employee violating a no-tobacco policy? A Massachusetts school district takes the rule so seriously that it suspended a coach for two days.
Remember those TV commercials from years ago for smokeless tobacco? “Just a pinch between your cheek and gums,” was the way to enjoy tobacco when you couldn’t smoke.
Well, that little pinch was just enough to get a high school football coach in Massachusetts suspended for two days.
Doug Chemovetz admitted chewing tobacco on the job, according to newspaper reports. A parent had complained in light of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s policy that bans players and coaches from using tobacco.
The school athletic director said it’s a matter of setting a good example for students.
Chemovetz teaches at the district middle school along with his coaching duties.
So for that little pinch of chew, Chemovetz felt a little pinch in his wallet.
