“Hello, insurance company? We’d like to report an accident with one of our vehicles. See, it all started with some exploding pudding … ”

Imagine making that call to your company’s vehicle insurance carrier.

The call may not have gone exactly like that, but someone had to make a similar report after an incident in Chagford, England.

A truck driver was forced to flee after 60,000 tins of custard and rich pudding he was transporting started to explode. The truck was destroyed.

The driver didn’t know at first what was happening in the trailer part of his rig that was carrying 26 tons of Ambrosia brand custard and pudding. Motorists had to flag him down, according to the London Telegraph.

It was too late by the time fire crews arrived — the desserts were popping like gunshots. The truck was consumed within 20 minutes.

An eyewitness said first there was a whiff of smoke and burning sugar, then the truck suddenly erupted.

No one was injured. A road had to be closed for six hours until all debris was cleared away.

A fire spokesman says he believes the cause to be accidental.
