As an HR pro, what impresses you about applicants at interviews? Maybe it’s their professional demeanor, resume or responses to questions.
What if an applicant showed up for a job interview instead of going to the hospital?
That’s what an unidentified 16-year-old Toronto student did.
He and another student were stabbed near a high school.
But the student made it to his co-op placement interview at a veterinary clinic, according to The Canadian Press.
When employees at the clinic noticed blood on the student’s leg, they called police.
Both students were taken to the hospital.
Veterinarian Kent Ackerman said, “He did really well on the interview, and we were very proud of him for sticking to the appointment.” At the same time, Ackerman said he was “shocked” the teen would delay going to the hospital for the interview.

Did he get the job?

Yes, that is what I want to know.
Who would have hired him?
Who wouldn’t?
Why??

Why was he stabbed? Where’s Paul Harvey – I want “the rest of the story”.

I have a medical background, so I’m not talking out of my behind. If it wasn’t a life threatening injury, and it was one which could wait, the logical thought process was to attend the interview if he wanted the job. I would know with no uncertain terms, I can count on this guy to show up no matter what his personal life had addressed. There is more lost time from “personal issues” than any other. Were they the victims or perps? Did the employees at the clinic overreact? Too many unanswered questions to address this one properly.

I want the rest also, how badly was he cut? Whose fault was the stabbing? What was behind the fight? What was he cut with?
“OK – Joe, you and I just got stabbed, I’m going to my interview, see you later. Hope you’re alright.”
Sounds fishy to me.

Sounds to me like the kid wanted the job pretty bad. GOOD FOR HIM! I was hit by a car on my bicycle when I was a kid, on the way to a job interview. It impressed the hiring manager so much that I got the job. He was interviewing at a Vet Clinic ~ why didn’t they stitch him up?

I’d be a little concerned that I’m hiring someone who would be involved in a stabbing. I’ve been interviewing a LONG time…not much that impresses me any more because I know that the kid who shows up in a suit isn’t always a good emploee but the one who shows up in jeans may be terrific. People hide alot of things at interviews.
I like to see a good work history. In someone new to the work force, I like to see someone who has some goals for the future and can string a simple sentence together.

I agree that he should be hired. I once had an interview show up in the middle of a Cat 3 hurricane. He got the job!
